Gaela Young

Minister of Music

Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming Gaela was introduced to music early by her father’s guitar playing and singing, and regular church attendance at the First Methodist Church downtown Cheyenne. She began piano lessons at the age of 8. Gaela began accompanying various groups very early in her life, and is still enjoying that fine art. Gaela was a music major and took her studies at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and completed her degree at Kansas State University. She has conducted choirs, taught piano lessons, and taken part in church music programs wherever she and her husband lived. A favorite memory is her time singing with the AFB officer’s wives club sextet which occasionally joined the USAF Singing Sergeants at area performances. Gaela sang with the Southern Maryland Choral Society, and assisted as rehearsal accompanist for their performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor. When the Young’s moved to Cheyenne, Gaela became involved with the music life here at Ascension.
